Geelong Welsh Ladies Choir – Music Team

The GWLC has an extremely dedicated music team which guide and inspire the choir.  Below is a brief summary of each member:

Musical Director – Jeanette John

Jeanette was born in South Wales in the small village of Nantymoel.  Music has been a part of her life since a small child growing up in the Ogmore Valley where she sang in chapel celebrations, eisteddfods, musical productions as well as being a cellist in the local and regional orchestras.

"I have had the pleasure and privilege of leading this group of great women for the past 15 years.  It has been very rewarding being part of the group, travelling on tour to both Wales and New Zealand as well as performing locally to a very high standard.  The sense of pride I feel when I stand conducting the choir when they sing without music, proudly performing in Welsh as well as other languages, is beyond words.  The friendship, support and fun that we have together is very precious and treasured".

Accompanist - Selmo Carreira

Selmo Carreira is a solo performer, accompanist, chamber music player and teacher. Born in Leiria he began studying piano at the age of 13 and continued his studies at the National Conservatory of Music in Lisbon and at the University of Evora, where he graduated in piano performance.  Selmo studied with and participated in master classes with eminent pianists such as Jean Fassina, Elizabeth Allen, Carla Seixas, and Christophe Simone.  He currently teaches the piano at Geelong College and Bach2Roq Music School and works as an accompanist both at Geelong College and as a freelancer.  Since 2009 he has worked professionally with his wife Rita Sousa as the Liber’Arte Duo.
